  1. I suggest to install VMware Workstation under Windows or Linux
  2. A z400 sounds like a HP Workstation. Why posting in Dell Forum?
  3. VMware was bought by Broadcom a year ago. The product you asking for named vSphere ESXi
  4. vSphere ESXi comes with a 60 day trial. Its a licenced product and the free ESXi Hypervisor was dropped at 7.x two ears ago

vSphere ESXi comes with limited driver support for support hardware. Its will likely not working because of Storage controller and Network card.  To find out i suggest to install vSphere ESXi on a USB stick and see which HW the OS will pick up. At first the ESXi installer is very simple because he only wants to knew the installation target(the USB Stick in your case). After reboot you  will see if it picks up  your local NIC and you have to assign one NIC to the management.

After log into vSphere Host Client you can check under Storage Adapters if your local HBA(or SATA what ever) is detected.  Sometimes you need to install additional drivers to get stuff working.

Regard,

Joerg
