Failed HDD Rebuild on Dell PowerEdge T430

I am seeking assistance regarding an issue with our Dell PowerEdge T430 server,<Private data removed from public view. DELL-Admin>
.

We recently replaced the HDD in Disk 3 Bay 1, which was flagged as faulty (Fault detection on drive 3 in disk drive bay 1. Check drive."). However, after the replacement, the new HDD failed to rebuild, leaving the Virtual Disk Status in a Degraded state.

Here are the steps I have already taken:

  1. Replaced the HDD in Disk 3 Bay 1 while the server was powered down.
  2. Restarted the server and allowed some time for the rebuild process to initiate.

Despite these actions, the rebuild did not proceed as expected. I would greatly appreciate your guidance on the following:

  • Any additional troubleshooting steps I should take to resolve the issue.
  • Confirmation if the new HDD needs to be initialized or configured in a specific way.
  • Potential causes for the rebuild failure.

Your prompt response would be highly valuable as we aim to restore the server's full functionality. Please let me know if you need further details or logs from the server.

Below is the details of the New HDD

Do a backup of your Data.

Pull the logs from your PERC and try to find out why the Rebuild failed.

Hello, if it's a hot plug HDD, replacement should be done online.
Can you also show us what you see in OMSA?
Also we do not encourage our customers to disclose their service tags in public. It would be great if you could click on my profile and send me a DM with your service tag.

Hi Young-E,

I cant send you a DM it routes me in forum again when i tried to click on private message but below is the screenshot request on my OMSA.

What do you mean by "online"? Are you referring to the operating system being fully loaded? Also, is it safe to remove and replace an HDD while it is in use for operations?

Hello, I'm thinking most likely that you have double fault on the VD.

Like, you can see from the snapshot you posted, brand new HDD "failure predicted" says yes on the table.

But again, if your systems is in warranty, in this case it is best the support needs to collect full TTY and TSR to confirm. Please raise an official ticket through https://dell.to/4guz1Yb it will route to your region.
