Dell Server Hard drive upgrade T620
I have a T620 server that has a raid 1 with two 1 TB Enterprise Class hard drives Modle:MG03ACA100 Part No HDPEQo3DLA51 SATA 7.2K.
I would like to upgrade to 2 TB as I am running out of space, and my C: drive is at capacity.
Per the manual it can handle 2 TB, 3 TB and 4TB, but the manual also says:
Note: A system cannot be upgraded or reconfigured after point of purchase.
Can I upgrade the drives?
If I install a new drive, will the raid rebuild automatically?
Do I need to replace one of the drives, or can i just add the new drive and then remove one once the raid rebuilds, then add another until all are larger?
Will it only use 1 TB of the new hard drive to match partitions so my C: drive will still be limited in size or will it partition the larger drive proportionally?
If limited to 1 TB will i be able to resize the drives once i have all larger drives in the array?
Dells website for upgraded drives does not list the T620 as one of the compatible systems, but it does list the T630:
Any help would be appreciated, i only know enough to get into trouble.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure that your server is way too far from having warranty contract. That note is for systems that is in within the period. You can upgrade the drives in the server. Some users have their own drives, some purchase from Dell sales. But I'm unsure for T620 drives are still available from Dell sales, perhaps you may need to contact them to confirm. Here are some DPN# that are compatible with T620:
0382H: HDD, 2TB, 512b, Enterprise SATA, 7.2K RPM, 3.5 Inch, 64MB, Hitachi, Mars K+, (Enterprise Class)
2G4HM: HDD, 2TB, 512b, Enterprise SATA, 7.2K RPM, 3.5 Inch, 64MB, Western Digital, Mantis, (Enterprise Class)
You will need to make the drive offline if the disk is not in fail state. To do that, you will need OMSA installed. Once the disk is offline, when the disk is replaced, the rebuild is automatic. After both drives have been replaced, you will not be able to see the RAID array expand to 2TB, it will still be 1TB array untill you do OCE (Online Capacity Expansion). I do not know your PERC card that you are using, some PERC do not have that function. Hence, you will need to do manual expansion.
