Dell PowerEdge R840 SAS SSD Write-intensive Recommendation?
Hello, my PowerEdge server has H730P RAID controllers. It also has a 24-port backplane. We are considering either 4 x 7.68TBX or 8 x 3.8TB SAS SSDs for high-write-intensity applications. Can you recommend any write-intensive drives for the PowerEdge R840? And if we go with write-intensive drives, which is more logical: 7.68TB x 4 or 3.84TB x 8?
thankyou.

For high-write-intensity scenarios, the 8 x 3.84TB approach is usually preferred because:It offers more aggregate IOPS and parallelism, enhancing both performance and disk subsystem resilience.Write endurance is proportional to the number of drives when DWPD (Drive Writes Per Day) is consistent per drive—so both configurations offer similar total endurance but with more performance headroom and reduced risk per drive in the 8-disk setup.RAID configurations (esp. RAID10) benefit from more drives for higher throughput and faster rebuilds. In case of a drive failure, the impact is less severe with 8 drives.
