Choosing between R260 vs. R360 with 3.5" RAID1 (PERC H355)
Hi,
Can't make my mind up between choosing R260 or R360 for a simple 2x3.5" RAID1 using the PERC H355.
In case one drive fails:
- I understand that the R260 is not available with hot-plug functionality for 3.5", so I would have to power down the system, unscrew the failed drive and power up the system again. Would that mean that I would have to wait for the rebuilding of the array before the OS starts or can it wait and be done through OMSA?
- For the R360 which supports hot-plugging 3.5": Assuming RAID1 setup, am I free to use one of the unused drive bays for the replacement disks?
Thanks.

T_oester,
On the R260, with cabled 3.5 drives, you would make sure the drive you are replacing is offline, then power down, remove the offline/failed drive, then install the new one and then boot the server. With the drive being part of a Raid 1 then you can still boot and use the server off the remaining drive(s). Also, when you power on the replacement drive will start rebuilding in the background.
With the R360, you can remove the failed drive and then after about a minute insert the replacement drive in the same slot or another available slot.
Let me know if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H
Thanks a lot - totally makes sense. We decided to go the R360 route due to this, as the additional depth of the R360 is not an issue anyway. Cost difference is very minor as well.
