Users of T420 wanting to boot Windows OS via PCIe slot with an MVMe SSD, here are two possible options
I have the 12 years old Poweredge T420 and is now booting via UEFI and Windows 10 PRO OS with the Intel DC P3700 2TB NVMe PCIe MLC SSDPEDMD020T4 drive connected to one PCIe slot, this Intel drive is unique because have inside itself a sort of microcode or software to allow older motherboards to boot using PCIe slot, apparently also boot with the P3600 and P3500, newer versions of this Intel drive cannot do the same, also the old Samsung 950 PRO 512GB NVMe can boot Windows 10 PRO with the T420 using a PCIe slot but the BIOS need to be set as AHCI and legacy BIOS

This Youtube video link below give me the idea suggestion about the Intel DC P3700 PCIe SSD and therefore finally the possibility of a larger capacity drive because before the 512GB of the Samsung 950 PRO was somehow small

Dear customer, thanks for choosing Dell. I'm afraid this is out of scope for us to support. Both hardware parts and the OS are unsupported. We will leave this for other community members to answer.
Respectfully,
