Reset iDRAC 8 enterprise username and password without monitor?

I just bought a used PowerEdge R630. I have tried the jumper reset and the power Drain Method. I can access the IDrac from the webpage. But, I am not getting any signal from either VGA port when I plug in a monitor.

Hello thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.

This may help.

PowerEdge: Changing the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9 (iDRAC9) Default Login Password | Dell Australia

This article provides the methods to change the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller 9 (iDRAC9) default login password.

However, if you have no access to BIOS because no VGA signal you'll have to get that fixed first.

Let us know if this helps and let us know if you have any further questions.

Based on older post it looks like that it is possible to disable the VGA port for the case when people insert a GPU into the server and would like to connect a monitor there.

But i expect that a clear CMOS jumper resets all settings back to the defaults. When doing this will the iDRAC also reset back to default?

Can you log into the iDRAC?

Regards,

Joerg

@Origin3k  after doing the resets I still couldn't log into idrac. Keep saying login and password don't match

Again .. i dont know if iDRAC is also factory resets when performing the clear NVRAM/CMOS reset. But i expect this.  The 16seconds for pressing the Info button justs "reboots'' the idrac but dont perform a factory reset.

An iDRAC8 was never shipped with a random password option? For sure it comes available for iDRAC9 and 10. Maybe you can check if there is a plactic label at the front with the STAG, MAC and the random password when this was selected during the purchase.

You can try to insert a old GFX card into the Server and see if something changed.

@Origin3k I have checked the light on and it does not have a password written on it. And you are correct I have done the hard reset by pressing the button on the front of the panel as well as done the hardware reset inside the case. You don't want reset the password for the idrac

Sorry it took so long. I have tried everything to reset the server, and also brought a video card to get a signal. I still didn't get a video signal. I am not sure what to do next. Could the server be locked out by Dell?

I didn't think it would be this hard to set up a used server. It is an enterprise Idrac.

Hello,

I think the only way you go back to the previous owner for idrac password.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000209910/poweredge-no-video-on-local-vga-port

“If you are getting no video on VGA port (out of box, after motherboard replacement, clearing NVRAM, remove CMOS) in general, be sure to check this setting while troubleshooting. “

But you cannot get to iDRAC, so you are in the loop- need to get back to old owner and ask the password, please.

@DELL-Young E

I cannot go back and get the password from the previous owner. I bought the item from a use computer parts store. And the owner does not have complete records on who he brought it from.
