R720 GPU Riser
I have a Dell R720, and I want to use it for LLama/AI. I can place a double-width GPU without any issues. When I install the second Double Width GPU, I receive a Plug and Play Training Error on Slot 4. The GPU works fine if I move it to the other slot. Is there a specific riser required to make this work?
GPU: AMD S7150 x2
Power Supply: 1100W
CPU: Dual E5-2650L v1

Hello,
https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-mk/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=h0n8r&lwp=rt
AMD Windows Server 2008/2012 R2 GPU Driver
Then I would like to ask you to take a look at page 22 here (GPU support)

Hello we checked your tag- it seems like you upgraded your CPU and PSU.

Dell PowerEdge R720 and R720xd Owner's Manual
-GPU Card Installation Guidelines-
NOTE: Internal GPU cards are supported on the PowerEdge R720 and not on the PowerEdge R720xd.
NOTE: Due to the high power consumption of GPUs, the ambient system inlet temperature is restricted to 30 °C to ensure adequate system cooling when one or more GPU cards are installed in PowerEdge R720. Note that this is less than the standard environmental specification of 35 °C.
The PowerEdge R720 must be installed with two processors.
The processor must be of 115 W or less.
The processor must use a GPU kit low-profile heat sink.
Ensure the GPU enablement kit is available.
GPU enablement kit includes:
Low-profile heat sinks
System board support brackets
Power cables for the GPU cards
Filler brackets with closeout EMI shield for unoccupied PCI-e slots
All GPU cards must be of the same type and model.
Ensure that your system uses the redundant 1100 W power supplies.
You can install up to two double-wide GPU cards.
NOTE: Two double-wide GPU cards configuration requires optional riser 3.
You can install up to four single-wide GPU cards.
Ensure the GPU enablement kit is available.
GPU enablement kit includes:
Low-profile heat sinks
System board support brackets
Power cables for the GPU cards
Filler brackets with closeout EMI shield for unoccupied PCI-e slots
->It looks like you need the GPU enablement kit at this point.

Hi,
Can I run both double-width GPU on a single 1100W power supply?
GPU enablement kit:
Low-profile heat sinks -> For testing, we can use the standard one
System board support brackets -> can you provide what brackets required?
Power cables for the GPU cards -> Already have these and using Dell Geniune Cables. Used on both risers
Filler brackets with closeout EMI shield for unoccupied PCI-e slots -> can you provide what filler brackets required?
So why am I still getting an error when the second GPU is installed in the middle riser?

Hello,
You would need two 1100W PSU:
GPUs require a redundant 1100W power supply and GPU enablement kit
That is in the list Young posted
Slot priority for double wide GPUs is slots 6 and 4

Do you have dual processors? You will need CPU#2 for pcie slot 4.
NOTE: Two double-wide GPU cards configuration requires optional riser 3.
Part #:CPVNF
Part Desc.:ASSY,CRD,EXP,RSR,LFT,OPTL-X16
Note I don't see AMD S7150 listed so it may work or maybe not.

I will also make note: As of the end of 2022 the 12th generation platforms reached the end of support life, so I'm working as best effort to help you.

Hi,
so this is what I have in my system:
Riser3 = 0VKRHF
Riser 2 = 0MPGD9
Riser 1 = 00D3F6
I do have Dual CPU, and so the Slot 4 it is showing as SLOT4_G3_X16 ( CPU2)

Hello, as Charles and I were both pointing out earlier, you will need GPU enablement kit. It is best that you get touch with your local support to see if it's available. Contact Technical Support | Dell US
