R660 mainboard LED codes

Hi,

We have a R660 that will not boot to POST. Reseated everything and it continues to fail to boot. Motherboard shows the following diagnostic code, but I'm not able to find any documentation as to the meaning of the code:

Ds0 on

Ds1 blinking

Ds2 blinking

Ds3 off

Ds4 blinking

Ds5 blinking

Ds6 off

Ds7 blinking

Hello,

If you haven't already I would recommend try a flea power drain. Next an NVRAM clear

drain flea power (shut down, disconnect power cables and Network cables, hold in power button 20 seconds with cords removed).

After flea power drain, system has to set for 3 minutes for DRAC to reset without any power plugged in.

Then plug in NIC and power but wait 2 minutes before power on to give DRAC time to initialize.

Test results

.

Clear NVRAM - there is a map under the lid to show the jumper location. Shut down, Set jumper to the Clear position, power on and Post up to the jumper error, shut down and return jumper to original location.

Test results

Issues indicated by the motherboard LEDs:

5V Switch Fault

A fault has been detected on the 5V switch power. The 5V switch rail powers the control panel & LCD, if present, as well as the RIO & LOM cards. It also powers the VGA and USB ports

Failed USB device or short in USB port

Remove any attached USB devices, keeping in mind that these may be installed in the front or back of the server, and internally as well, depending on config. Inspect the USB ports for pin damage

Short in iDRAC Direct cable

Remove any devices plugged into the iDRAC Direct port (the USB port with a wrench icon)

Failed attached monitor or short in video cable

Remove any displays connected to the VGA port(s)

Short in LOM ethernet cable or card failure

Remove any ethernet cables from the LOM port(s), and inspect for possible damage. If issue persists with these detached, try removing the LOM card itself to further isolate

Short in control panel cable(s)

Disconnect the front control panel cable(s) from the motherboard

Recommend to test in Minimum to POST configuration.

The minimum components to allow the PowerEdge R660 to complete POST are:

One processor in processor socket 1

One memory module (DIMM) in slot A1

One power supply unit in PSU 1

System board + RIO card

Remove anything not on that list: DVD, Hard drives, PERC controller, backplane, network card, NIC cable, any pcie cards, keyboard, mouse, USB devices, …. anything not on the list remove.

If it does not post then the issue is with one of those minimum to post components.

If you get successful POST, put things back a little at a time until you find the faulting component.

If you are still under warranty coverage I would recommend contacting Support directly.

Failed rear I/O (RIO) card

Remove any cables attached to the rear I/O port(s), such as VGA, the dedicated iDRAC ethernet, and USB, and inspect for possible damage. If issue persists with cables detached, try without the RIO card itself

If unable to rule out the RIO card due to being part of minimum-to-POST for the configuration, and the remaining troubleshooting leans towards motherboard and RIO.
