R640/R740 2nd CPU doesn't be detectited
Hello,
I have a R640 and a R740 and i need to upgrade the processor.
I have one Intel Xeon Processor 6208U Gold on my R640 and i try to had another one (exactly the same).
After multiple try, the second one isn't detectited.
On the R740 with Intel Xeon Processor 4208 it's works but when I put my 2x Intel Xeon Processor 6208U Gold its works only for one.
Do you know if i need to change somthing?

Hello,
Have you populated B side memory for the second processor? Both processors must have identical memory configuration.
Check that you have BIOS and iDRAC firmware up to date
Check socket 2 for any bent pins. A flashlight at an angle can help see any bent pins.
Make sure you have heat sink and thermal paste
Try each CPU in socket 1 only to test. Try that with only DIMM A1. (CPU1 and A1 only with each processor).
No second processor and no B side memory.
When you have confirmed then add second CPU2 and DIMM B1

@Benjamin - IDEEE
you have a 6208U? A "U"? Than you should find out what the U stands for and than you will know why it never will work.
Iam pretty sure you will bang your head and smile about that funny Layer8 problem.

Joerg

Hello,
I followed the instructions step by step, but unfortunately my second Intel Gold 6208U is not recognized. Do you have any further advice on what to do?
Thank you very much.
Kind regards

The "U" in your 6208U means uni/uno/single. Its a special one which dont support SMP regardless if you put into a dual socket server or not. This CPU was a cheaper option because of that limitation.
It will never work if your put 2 of these into one server because its designed not to work.
