R630 iDRAC rebooting after update.

G'day

I've done many firmware updates, and this is first one that's gone wrong!

Server came with 2.40.40.40_A00, and popped in the enterprise trial key. However, virtual console didn't work, so lifted it to 2.50.50.50,  (going straight to the latest is a bit of a major jump...) all went well, java issues resolved with the virtual console.. so should of let it there!

but you know how it is, lets get it right up to date......

Went up another step to 2.61.60.60 and now... iDrac keeps rebooting and this is affecting Lifecycle.
I now don't have access to the iDRAC GUI, but can remote in via SSH, before it decides to reboot again, (about three mins..)

On the odd occasion i can get into lifecycle,

It won't let me look at the logs.  HWCxxxxx
I asked it to roll back, but came back an error, repower the server and try agin...

I tried roll back via usb  (just with firmimg.d7 on a usb-card reader. ) but again. "reboot and try again.

I've tried an upgrade with the next version, with firmimg.d7 on a USB, thinking it'll reflash and get rid of any corruption etc.  but again, it won't see it...

I've reset the BIOS and iDRAC back to factory, and still has the same issue.
Reset idrac with the 20 second button push, Idrac resets to defaults, and can set it up on screen. but it takes a couple of attempts to save the settings.. but alas, will reboot every few mins once exited the onscreen gui.

The server will boot eventually, but since it was planned to go at remote site, this is a bit of show stopper!

I've read about a bootable update disk, but can't find it, (probably because it's EoL etc..) Perhaps that might get me out of trouble?

Any other thoughts, how to trigger a boot loader or something to load another image?

Many thanks..
Mr.H

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell.
I have not come across this issue before.
But I'm suspecting corruption with iDRAC memory, if that really is the case you will need a new board, I'm afraid.
Would you be able to officially contact the local support by raising a ticket?  https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/en-us/contactus/Dynamic?msockid=02eec40b193f61d40967d131182a6092

if it lets you, boot the system with a monitor and keyboard attached, F2 when prompted, then go into the idrac settings, and disable the lifecycle controller. Save, exit and reboot. Ideally, I suggest disconnecting power at this point for 10 seconds or so. Power back on, F2, enable the LC, save exit and cross you fingers. If you havnt done so, you could also try using the nvram clr jumper.
