PowerEdge T440 freeze with Radeon RX6600
Hi, I have a PowerEdge T440 that I upgraded with a second CPU and the 1110W power supply. I also bought the power cable for the graphics card and installed a Radeon RX6600. However, when I start the system (the host is Debian 12), I can see the card using the lspci command, but after a couple of minutes the system freezes, and on the front panel I see the PCI card orange LED and the blinking power LED.
I also tried to boot a clean system using a live USB, but the result was the same.
What could be the problem? Did I miss some configuration?
Thanks.

Hello, the GPU you are using isn't a Dell certified so there's nothing much we can comment on this. Would you try using a Dell verified ones? You can refer to https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/poweredge-hardware-general/dell-emc-poweredge-t440-pn-gpu-compatibility/647f8bb5f4ccf8a8debd947d

Thank you for your reply. I understand that the Radeon RX6600 is not officially certified by Dell for the PowerEdge T440. However, I specifically chose this GPU because I need it for ROCm-based workloads, and unfortunately, I do not have access to any Dell-certified graphics cards that support ROCm.
Given this, I would really appreciate some clarification: is using a certified GPU strictly mandatory for the system to work properly, or are there configurations or workarounds that might make the RX6600 stable in this setup?
If certified hardware is the only supported path, I find this to be a significant limitation—especially for users like me who rely on specific hardware for computational workloads.
Thank you again, and I look forward to any advice or insights you can share.
Best regards.

Hello,
You're absolutely right—the Radeon RX6600 is not officially certified for use with the PowerEdge T440. While the system may still function with non-certified GPUs, we cannot guarantee full stability or performance, and support for such configurations would be limited.
Certified GPUs are recommended because they have been thoroughly tested for compatibility, thermal behavior, and power requirements within the system.
At this time, we do not have official documentation or internal validation data regarding the compatibility of the Radeon RX6600 with the PowerEdge T440.
While some users have had success with non-certified GPUs, results can vary depending on factors such as power delivery, thermal management, and driver support. Unfortunately, without documentation or testing data, we’re unable to provide specific guidance or guarantee system behavior with this configuration.
Also, T440 PCIe is Gen3, RX6600 is Gen4.
Respectfully,
