Poweredge R820: Fatal error! No memory detected!

I removed all of the DIMMs from my R820 and tried replacing them with higher capacity ones, but then realized they were not compatible with its DIMM slots. I removed the incompatible ones and put back in the original DIMMs, but now when I turn the R820 on, it says "Fatal error! No memory detected!".

I have tried all of the DIMMs in each slot, and a number of combinations recommended in the owner's manual. None of them have worked.

I'm wondering if there are any troubleshooting steps I should take, or if it is likely that I damaged some piece of hardware when changing the DIMMs.

The original DIMMs are InnoDisk ACT16GHR72W4K1600C1-VLP

The new DIMMS I tried replacing the originals with are Samsung M393A2G40DB0-CPB

For anyone finding this post, make absolutely sure you have fully inserted the DIMMs into their slots. They should click into place.

If that doesn't fix the issue, refer to @DELL-Joey C's answer and follow their steps.

Aehh..... you tried DDR4 memory within a system which is DDR3 only. Good Luck!

Hello,

Most likely the replaced DIMM, (Samsung M393A2G40DB0-CPB) might have caused the mainboard to turn non-functional. Here's something if you have not tried. Power release; remove the power cables from the power supply, press and hold the power button for 15 secs before release. Then install back the power cables to check the issue. Another thought, have you also tried removing the CMOS battery or have you tried clear NVRAM. You mentioned you have tried all the DIMMs in each slot, have you tried installing only 1 memory in slot A1 with 1 CPU?

These are the steps that I can think of, before concluding the mainboard is faulty.

@DELL-Joey C My silliness knows no bounds. In attempting to only softly handle the server, I never fully inserted the DIMMs. I feared applying too much force might break something, and that surely you wouldn't need to push that hard to slot them in.

After realizing my mistake and snapping the DIMMs in, it is fixed. It seems it was never broken in the first place.

Tee hee!
