PowerEdge 830

I have an old PowerEdge 830 that has been used as a desktop running Windows 10 Pro. It has an Intel Pentium running a 32bit operating system. x64 based processor. As Windows 10 will end support I need to know :

1-Since it has a legacy Bios. Can I switch to UEFI and how do I go about it?

2-How do I install TPM to see if it will take an upgrade to Windows 11?

If that can't be done;

1.- Can I convert it to a NAS server for my home network?

2.- How can I do that? What software can I use to do that?

Your help and assistance would be greatly appreciated,

You can try an install of Windows 11 in unsupported mode (bypass the CPU check) but no TPM or UEFI change will make the system Windows 11 supportive (at least not officially).

If you want to build a NAS server, Linux is probably a better starting point than Windows.

You can start with the link below, but there are no doubt hundreds of how-tos for that project.

I will visit MOV and determine how to convert to a Linux NAS server.

By the way is there another way to make it a "windows server"? Or is there something else I am missing?

You can run Windows 11 on the system - but it will be in unsupported mode.  There is no way to run Windows 11 officially on this system.  Microsoft so far hasn't cut off updates on unsupported systems, but it no doubt will in the future - so run it for now, and when that happens, you have a choice to make:  retire the system, or run a non-Windows OS that still supports the hardware with updates.

I have been working on this problem for the last month.

Perhaps the best option is to convert to a Linux OS.

I find that UBUNTU LTS may be one of the best since it also has UBUNTU SERVER LTS.

Then I came over to OPENSUSE -Tumbleweed, which would allow for easy sharing of files in the home network.

That will give me few more years for the use of this PowerEdge 830.

Just a matter of deciding on which distro to use.

Any thoughts or assistance in this matter would be appreciated.
