iDRAC and Lifecycle Controller inaccessible after BIOS 2.9.0 & iDRAC 2.65.65.65 update on Dell PowerEdge R720

Dear Dell Support Team,

I am reporting a critical failure that occurred immediately after applying official firmware updates downloaded from the Dell Support website to my Dell PowerEdge R720 server:

  • BIOS Version: 2.9.0
  • iDRAC with Lifecycle Controller Version: 2.65.65.65

Immediately after completing these updates, the iDRAC became completely non-functional and inaccessible. The server now shows clear signs of iDRAC/Lifecycle Controller failure and is not manageable or recoverable through standard procedures.

This issue occurred directly after applying these updates, and there were no hardware or firmware problems prior to the update.

This has caused significant operational disruption. Since these updates are officially provided by Dell, I hold Dell responsible for the damage caused by this update and I request urgent assistance.

I request the following:

  1. Immediate recovery steps that do not require motherboard replacement.
  2. Confirmation whether this is a known issue with these specific firmware versions on R720.
  3. Immediate review of these updates on Dell’s support site, including possible removal or a warning notice to protect other customers.
  4. Clarification on Dell’s responsibility for damages resulting from installing these updates.

Please treat this case with high priority.

I am prepared to provide the Service Tag, logs, and any further information required.

Kind regards,

6 Operator

I have my doubt that your 12Gen Host have a valid dell support contract. Even if you have Post-Standard that would exclude "software". If iam wrong you should open a support ticket trough the hotline or the support page.

If you have tried a powerdraining of the host? If so is the idrac responsable through "racadm" which runs within your OS and can talk to the idrac "trough" the OS and Host.

Regards,

Joerg
