idrac 6 idrac6 firmware upgrading

i have an R310 with idrac 6 enterprise module.

i want to do a firmware update from 1.85 to 2.92 (which i think is the last published version).

i can't use the linux or windows installers because i'm not planning to install an OS just to do a BIOS and iDRAC upgrades.

on the R310 drivers download site, there's nothing for the iDRAC firmware that doesn't rely on an OS for installation.

using the platform upgrade feature on the iDRAC, it mentions something about a "catalog file" to be found on USB, FTP or network share, which i can't find on the dell support site.

so what kind of file type do i need to be able to boot into the LifeCycle Controller, do a Platform Upgrade and pull from the USB drive to get the iDRAC upgraded?

Hi,

You can try using the firmimg.d6 extracted out from the .exe file of each download of update from the support page: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-my/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=cmdn0&oscode=ws8r2&productcode=poweredge-r310, say eg: iDRAC6_1.95_A00_FW_IMG.exe. Extract it and copy the file into USB. Usually I don't recommend updating the firmware by jumping the gap to the latest. I also do recommend updating parrallel BIOS update together with iDRAC/LCC. Once you are at 2.80, iDRAC should be able to accept .exe file without manual extraction.

Hi Joey,
thanks for the reply.  i'll definitely keep this in mind for the next time.

ultimately, i found a windows server 2012R2 Eval DVD, so i just installed that and went with the windows firmware updaters.
thanks again
