DELL R740 BIOS (2.25.0) can be used idrac iDRAC 5.00.00.00 or i need newer version

Hello,

I want to upgrade my R740 server to the newer BIOS version 2.25.0. Now I am using  2.10.2 and iDRAC 5.00.00.00.

My question is can I keep the iDRAC 5.00.00.00, or do I need to go to a higher version?

Thanks,

Stas

Hi,

you cannot keep iDRAC 5.00.00.00. You need to upgrade iDRAC to at least 6.00.00.00.

Note: It is always recommended to update iDRAC first, then the BIOS.

Procedure:

  1. Update iDRAC to 6.00.00.00 (or latest within the 6.x series).

    • Check the Dell support site for the latest iDRAC firmware for R740.
    • The update can be done via the iDRAC web interface, or using a Dell Update Package (DUP) from the operating system.
  2. Then update the BIOS to 2.25.0.

Important: Before updating, back up your server configuration (including iDRAC settings) and ensure you have a stable power supply.

Additional note: Updating iDRAC might require a reboot, and then updating BIOS will require another reboot.

Conclusion:
You need to upgrade iDRAC to at least version 6.00.00.00 to use BIOS 2.25.0
