dell r330 and unreachable iDRAC/ssh

Good morning.

I have inherited a dell r330 and did the following:

1. a complete reset

2. configured iDRAC network parameters

3. upgraded firmware/bios

The Problem: I cannot access ssh/http(s)/icmp on the server.

PS: I can see ARP requests from r330 for the gateway/DNS server, and I can see ARP responses with valid MACs. So, I assume the network stack on the r330 works.

Hello,

Do you know the history of the server? Was the iDRAC working when you acquired it?

Have you confirmed the BIOS and iDRAC are up do date?

Try direct connect to the DRAC and test:

If you have an iDRAC Enterprise license confirm if you are using the iDRAC Dedicated port.

If no iDRAC Enterprise license then choose one of the LOM.

Test the DRAC network port by connecting a notebook directly to one of the onboard LOM or iDRAC Dedicated port, which ever you have, of the R330

  1. Connect the Systems:
    • Use an Ethernet cable to connect the notebook directly to the NIC of the other system.
  2. Configure IP Addresses:
    • Ensure both systems have IP addresses in the same subnet. You can manually assign IP addresses if necessary. For example:
      • Notebook: 192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0
      • Server: 192.168.1.3 / 255.255.255.0
  3. Check Physical Connection:
    • Verify that the Ethernet cable is securely connected and the network adapters are enabled on both systems.
  4. Ping Test:
    • Open the Command Prompt on the notebook and use the ping command to test connectivity. For example:
      ping 192.168.1.3
    • If the ping is successful, it indicates that the network adapter is functioning correctly.

I would recommend to put the system service tag in to your name with the form below.
