Dell PowerEdge T430 server computer errors

Hi,

I’m using a Dell PowerEdge T430 server computer and have encountered the following two error messages:

  1. VLT0204System board voltage is outside of range. Contact Support.

  2. VLT0304CPU1 5V SWITCH PG voltage is outside of range. Reseat CPU.

To troubleshoot, I replaced the CPU and power supplies using components from an identical backup server (same model and brand). However, the errors continue to occur.

Do you have any comments or suggestions for the solution ?

Phyo Maung Maung,

You have done well with your previous troubleshooting steps, but I would also recommend you take the server to its Minimum Hardware Configuration:
  • Remove all non-essential components.
  • Leave only:
    • 1 CPU in socket CPU1
    • 1 DIMM in slot A1
    • 1 PSU
    • No PCIe cards, no drives, no risers (if removable)
  • Power on and check if the error persist

Since you've already ruled out the CPU and PSU. The persistent voltage errors—especially after minimal configuration and component swaps—strongly suggest a system board failure, particularly in the voltage regulation or power distribution circuitry. You can try to confirm this with swapping out the motherboard witht he known good system.

Let me know what you see and if this helps.

@DELL-Chris H Hi ChrisI tried checking all the components—power supply, CPU, and memory cards by swapping them from the primary computer to the second backup computer. Everything seems to be working fine, which suggests the error issues are likely with the motherboard.

Now, I’m trying to swap the hard drives from the primary computer into the backup computer to see if we can recover our important software. However, the system isn’t recognizing the primary server computer Windows.

Do I need to configure something in the BIOS? If so, how should I go about it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

To confirm, (you did mention that you have identical backup server) can you confirm the RAID controller that is used is the same. You said that the system isn't recognizing the primary Windows, do you have the error message? Have you configured RAID on the problem server?

On a side note, I previously experience on other post before that this issue can be from the CMOS battery.

@DELL-Joey C Hi Chris, We didn’t make any RAID configuration changes on either the problem server computer. We simply swapped the hard disks between the two server computers.

Now we’re facing a new issue. When we tried to boot the primary server’s Windows on the backup server, it wasn’t recognized. To troubleshoot, I changed the BIOS boot mode to UEFI. After restarting, we could no longer access the BIOS settings, and the monitor now shows nothing on screen.

However, I can still hear sounds from the casing, which I think the system is powered on and running to some extent.

Do you have any suggestions?
How can I restore or access the BIOS settings again?

I’ve tried pressing F2, F10, and F12 during boot, but nothing appears on the screen.

I may change CMOS battery as you suggest.

It seems that system is loading OS but he cannot load it correctly.

What if you remove all hdds and try? Just to see if it can reach BIOS or to have video on the screen.

Thanks

@DELL-Marco B Hi Marco, Thank you for your message. I believe I’ve finally been able to access the primary server (Windows) by using the backup computer’s motherboard. However, the commercial software I am using from the seismic equipment manufacturer is currently inaccessible and displaying a license warning message followed by the machine ID.

Thus, I have a simple question:
Does the commercial software from the company store or memorize specific hardware details from the Dell server computer, such as the serial number, license number, or other hardware-related identifiers?

The service tag is embedded with the motherboard, so while we don't know about your software specifically, it may be due to that. Now when we suggested trying the other board it was just to test if it worked, which helped in identifying the original motherboard as the cause of the issue. What I suggest is that you order a new motherboard, which will arrive without a svc tag assigned, and would allow you to transfer the svc tag to it, so it should be seen as it was before to the software, in my opinion.

@DELL-Chris H Hi Chris, Thank you for the suggestion.

What would be the best way to order a new motherboard without a service tag?

Our server is a Dell PowerEdge T430, and the motherboard part number is DP/N: 0KX11M.

Since the server is located in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, do you know of any authorized Dell distributors in Indonesia?

Also, could you recommend any local certified technicians who could assist us ?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

Here's the search engine for Dell Partner and Resellers https://www.delltechnologies.com/partner/en-my/partner/find-a-partner.htm, you can search for company that resides in Indonesia. You can try contacting the company to try check with them if they are able to service you in Banda Aceh.

You can order motherboards without service tag, but I'm unsure the resellers have stock, do contact some of them in the search website.
