Dell PowerEdge R740 & Dell PERC 12 H965i Raid Controller

Hello All,

Just purchased a R740 and it came with a PERC H740P Raid Controller. We wanted to upgrade the raid controller to a Dell PERC 12 H965i Raid Controller. Purchased it and figured out that cables that connect to the backplane are much bigger. We have looked everywhere for what cables are used to connect the backplane to the raid controller. The R740 is the 16 Bay 2.5in model, attempting to run 16 2.5in SAS SSDs in raid6 if that matters.

This is the raid controller we purchased (The Internal low profile pcie mounted one).

This is what the cable ends look like on the back of the backplane pcb:

If anyone has any information, that would be greatly appreciated!

The H965 is for 16 and 17Gen servers and offer 24Gbit SAS. This might be the reason why the cables wont fit.

The H755 was the one for 15Gen Hosts but you have a 14Gen. Server.  Its not very common that someone replace RAID HBA against one comming from the next gen modell(s).

Update: It seems like the H965i isn't compatible with the r740 according to Dell's website: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r740/per740_techspecs_pub/storage-controller-specifications?guid=guid-cab093cc-70ba-4037-a013-e410965f75a2&lang=en-us

Hello when R740 was released, H965i did not exist. so, basically what you want to do is to see if the latest controller would work on an old system and that's most likely not going to be working in my opinion.
