ConnectX-6 Dx firmware issues for R7725 servers

We have just purchased 17 of these servers, and what an absolute mishmash of firmware versions we have received.

Specifically, we have the following versions in ascending order 22.32.2004, 22.36.1010,  22.42.10.00 and 22.43.2026

Quite reasonably, given they are all going to be part of a cluster, I would like to get them all running the same firmware version. I have been bitten too many times with different firmware versions, causing issues.

The problem is that the latest version I can download is 22.42.10.00, which is older than the version on some of the cards. However, the ConnectX-6 Dx cards in my XE8545 servers have an even later version, 22.44.10.36, available for download and are, in fact, running that. That update won't apply to my R7725's (I have tried).

Can whoever is responsible at Dell sort this out ASAP?

I would also note that some of the servers have CLPD version 1.03, while others have 1.04, with no firmware option to download and bring them all into alignment. These servers have been out for several months now, so there is no excuse.

Finally, the "new" experience when looking to download updates is a steaming pile of Brontosaurus droppings. Whizzy, slow and cluttered is always worse than functional, fast and clear.

Hello,

To get them all in line together you may use the July 2025 SUU utilities linked below.

The other firmware version seem to be if it is a ConnectX-6 DX or ConnectX-6 LX

SUU Software Bundle List: July 2025

ConnectX-6 DX firmware:

Mellanox ConnectX-6 DX Ethernet Adapter Firmware: 22.42.1000

Mellanox ConnectX-6 LX Ethernet Adapter Firmware: 26.42.10.00

July 2025 SUU utilities:

Dell Server Update Utility, Linux 64-bit format, v.25.06.00

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=cd35p&oscode=rhel8&productcode=poweredge-r7725

Version: 25.06.00, A00

Release date: 22 Jul 2025

1. Download the full ISO file.

2. Use the ISO mounting software and mount the downloaded ISO image.

3. Open the terminal and go to the mounted folder where the ISO image is mounted.

4. Run ./suu -g to launch the GUI interface.

@DELL-Charles R  I can assure you that my servers only have the ConnectX-6 Dx cards in them (for crazy pricing reasons both an OCP card and a PCIe card because it was cheaper than just an OCP card, go figure).

As such a couple of my servers with a ConnectX-6 Dx card have firmware version 22.43.2026 as reported by the firmware inventory on the iDRAC and mlxconfig.

Consequently, I will repeat my entirely reasonable request for at least firmware version 22.43.2026 for the ConnectX-6 Dx cards on the R7725. Noting again that the ConnectX-6 Dx OCP cards in my XE8545 servers are running 22.44.10.36, which is even more recent.

If the July server update only includes 22.42.1000, which I can download as an individual update anyway, as I mentioned in my original post, it is as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Hello,

I found ConnectX-6 DX v.22.44.10.36

I'm not sure it will work with the R7725 but you can try.

None of that worked. It is incredibly frustrating that Dell ship a collection of supposedly identical brand new servers, some of which have more recent firmware than others and for which there are no downloads available to align them all.

Then again the drives up the front in our XE8545's still don't have a firmware you can apply to them on the machine. Guru level hacking to extract the firmware, from the download for different servers, trim the Dell header off and apply on my "drivinator" machine. Really what is Dell playing at these days with firmware. That's the last two lots of machines Dell have shipped us with firmware update issues on kit costing more than a million dollars. That's frankly rubbish customer service.

Time I think to engage pro support and vent my spleen.
