bios recovery on PowerEdge R7525

Hi

New motherboard for my Poweredge R7525. No BIOS/POST. IDrac access. I managed to update iDrac firmware (7.20.30.00 now)  via racadm and TFTP server but was not able to install/update/recover BIOS via iDrac Web console :error RAC0508 : "the operation cannot be completed because the provider is not ready". Tried several BIOS images (.EXE from Dell site).

Also tried via command "racadm update -f BIOS-XXX.EXE -l http://xxx". No success. Error is :

"[RED098: Unable to complete the firmware update operation because the specified firmware image is not compatible with the target system model"

Then tried "racadm recover BIOS.Setup.1-1" : after 10mn, error is :
« RAC1236: Unable to initiate the recovery operation because of an internal error. »

Nothing in Lifecycle log. Nothing in support…

Any idea ? Thnaks

Braiff,

The first thing I would want to ask is if you imported the svc tag over to the new motherboard? I ask because if that wasn't done then the iDRAC may not recognize the system as a valid R7525, and it can also cause the
BIOS updates to fail with the RED098 error.

As far as the errors you are seeing, they are as follows

Error Code Meaning
RAC0508 iDRAC is not ready to process the request (often due to BMC initialization or internal fault)
RED098 The BIOS image is not compatible with the system model (often due to mismatched board identity or corrupted SMBIOS)
RAC1236 Internal error during BIOS recovery (often due to invalid or missing recovery partition or corrupted firmware environment)

Let me know if what you see.
