4 servers to update, what is the best process?

I have 2 x PE R250 and 2 x PE R660xs servers and I need to make sure the firmware for all of the hardware is updated and I am try to find out the best way to achieve this, I don't know if there is an easier way that just finding out all of the hardware and trying to find out if there is a fw update for it and using the idrac to give it the files one by one, I know the idrac does have an auto update facility, but if I try and check the availability from HTTPS and default location, it fails. The server has internet access, so I don't know if the idrac uses different ports to operate.

How do other people do there updates via the idrac?

Hi,

First, update your iDRAC firmware. You can use the Dell Repository Manager (DRM) to simplify the process. Instead of manually searching for individual firmware updates, DRM allows you to select your servers, and it will identify all applicable updates. You can then download these updates as a single repository.

Alternatively, you can use OpenManage Enterprise or the Server Update Utility for firmware updates. These tools provide streamlined methods to ensure your servers are up-to-date without the hassle of manual searches.

Hope that helps!

The iDRAC needs 443/tcp to reach the Dell update Servers.  Check your Firewall if you see connection from the iDRACs.

Guessing....  if you havent configured a working DNS the iDRAC failes to resolve the FQHN   downloads.dell.com and than you will see nothing within your Firewall.

There is Dell OME out there... its acts like whats a WSUS is for MS updates. It does the same for PowerEdge FW and Drivers if you want.  But it took some time to configures this.

Joerg
