UEFI0116 - system does not boot up

Hi everyone,

My server PowerEdge R740xd doesn't boot correctly (OS windows server 2012R2 installed), as a result i got UEFI0116 error and now the system will not boot- see picture below please.

This error happens when i change the disk drive in fault and the system doesn't boot up

All disk drive is working correctly as the console Idrac is showing

The dashboard show no any problem

Temporary I can access the server from virtual console only.

If possible could you please advise me the procedure how to get out of this -  really do not want to loose existing data.

Hi,

the UEFI0116 error on your Dell PowerEdge R740xd server indicates an issue with the storage devices, potentially related to the recent hard drive replacement. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue and get your server booting again, while minimizing the risk of data loss:

1. Check Physical Connections:

  • Ensure all hard drives and storage devices are securely seated in their slots and properly connected to the backplane and motherboard.
  • Inspect the cables for any signs of damage or loose connections. Re-seat them firmly if necessary.

2. Verify RAID Configuration:

  • Access the PERC H740P Adapter Configuration Utility through iDRAC or directly on the server.
  • Review the RAID configuration and ensure all configured virtual drives are present and their status is optimal.
  • If a virtual disk shows a degraded or failed state, avoid further actions that might risk data loss. Consult Dell's support resources or a qualified technician for guidance on recovering the RAID array.

3. Update Drivers and Firmware:

  • Download the latest firmware and drivers for your PERC H740P adapter, backplane, and BIOS from Dell's support website.
  • Update the firmware and drivers following the instructions provided by Dell. This can potentially resolve compatibility issues or bugs that might be causing the problem.

4. Run Diagnostics:

  • Boot the server and press F11 at the Dell splash screen to enter the Boot Manager.
  • Select System Utilities -> Launch Diagnostics.
  • Run a full system diagnostic test, including the storage subsystem. This can help identify any hardware faults with the hard drives or RAID controller.

5. Disable and Re-enable Lifecycle Controller (Optional):

  • This step should be attempted with caution as it might reset some server settings.
  • If the previous steps don't resolve the issue, you can try disabling and then re-enabling the Lifecycle Controller through the iDRAC interface or command line.
  • Consult Dell's documentation for detailed instructions on performing this operation.

Important Note:

  • If you are unsure about any of the troubleshooting steps, especially those involving the RAID configuration, it is highly recommended to seek assistance from a qualified IT professional or Dell support to minimize the risk of data loss.

By following these steps systematically, you should be able to identify and potentially resolve the cause of the UEFI0116 error and get your PowerEdge R740xd server booting up again. Remember to prioritize data safety and avoid making any changes that could potentially compromise your valuable information.
