Hi,

If firmware versions are not up to date please check your iDRAC and BIOS updates first.

Ensure that the following conditions exist:
  • System cover, cooling shroud, EMI filler panel, or back-filler bracket is not removed.
  • Ambient temperature is not higher than the specified ambient temperature.
  • External airflow is not obstructed.
  • A cooling fan is not removed or has not failed.
  • The expansion card installation guidelines have been followed.
Additional cooling can be added by one of the following methods:
From the iDRAC Web GUI:
  1. Click Hardware > Fans > Setup.
  2. From the Fan Speed Offset drop-down list, select the cooling level needed or set the minimum fan speed to a custom value.
From F2 System Setup:
  1. Select iDRAC Settings > Thermal, and set a higher fan speed from the fan speed offset or minimum fan speed.
From RACADM commands:
  1. Run the command racadm help system.thermalsettings

Hope that helps!

I just fixed my R330, the Fans were gradually accelerating from boot and were running at almost full speed without load. After swapping PSU's, HDD's etc. It turned out to be poor surface thermal paste contact between the CPU and heatsink. After removing the heatsink and CPU from the M/B I scraped off the old paste, reapplied new and it's quiet now.

I know this is a long dead thread, but I found it on my quest to silence my R330. After using ipmitool and a script to measure the cpu temp and adjust the fan accordingly I continued my goal to silence this server without outside help.

So for all you new owners of a VERY noisy R330 hop on to eBay and buy 4x R610 fans. You will have to remove the "peaks" from them and reuse the rubber anti-vibration grommets from the original fans and the fit is very slightly annoying around the cables but it does the trick.

I had tried R620 fans but they sounded "nicer" but not really quieter (can someone tell me how four of these fans in a R330 are louder than the same fans (6) in a R620?). Anyway the R610 fans work perfectly, good luck and I hope you enjoy your R330 again.
