PowerEdge R740xd - lower fan speed
Hi
We have recently bought 2x R740xd (from second hand) for education purposes. (identical hardware) One server is flying like an airplane.
We have checked several things (settings, firmware updates, ipm tool)but we came to fan settings and these setting stays on 100%
I'v taken a screenshot of the both servers. The screenshot belows give us a custom option only between 100-100 meanwhile the other server gives us the option between 30-100.
Anyone a solution for this?

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell.
Fan Speed Offset
Adjusting Fan Speed Offset for iDRAC7 and iDRAC8

Cause In case additional hardware is added, for example a PCIe card, it may require additional cooling. The thermal control algorithm may not provide adequate cooling for 3rd party PCIe cards.
Hope this helps and have a good one.

Hi,
I would like to help until the subject owner responds. I do not know the exact details of your problem, but if it is a similar problem, you can check the following. Please update firmware to match the other server. Then check hardware components and reseat them especially ensuring that all fans are properly seated and connected. Lastly, I will compare and align BIOS and iDRAC settings.
You can reset iDRAC from the iDRAC web interface under Overview > iDRAC Settings > Diagnostics > Reset iDRAC.
Don't forget to compare iDRAC thermal settings both servers.
Hope that helps!
