GPGPU issues with Dell T630
Dear Dell support! Dear forum members!
I have a Dell T630 with a GPU enabling kit installed, which otherwise works well without a GPU.
For testing, I have acquired an NVIDIA P100 GPGPU, which I have managed to get working within the system, shows up in nvidia-smi
, etc., but I am experiencing an issue with system cooling: once the P100 is installed, the PSU fans immediately ramp up to maximum speed and stay there constantly, even though system temperatures remain well within normal operating ranges.
I could otherwise manage the fan profile via a custom ipmitool
script, but I have came to the conclusion, that the PSU fans work by an internal logic, that cannot be controlled with ipmitool.
I am currently using two 465W PSUs. The system functions normally otherwise, and the GPU appears operational, but the noise levels from the PSU fans are excessive.
Has anyone encountered similar behavior when using non-certified GPUs in the T630?
Is there a way to adjust the fan curves or modify the thermal sensor thresholds through iDRAC, BIOS, or another method to prevent the PSU fans from running at full speed unnecessarily?
And the most important question perhaps:
Will upgrading the PSUs resolve this issue? In the owner's manual, it was clearly stated, that for 250-300W GPU-s an 1600W and 1100W system is required. However, since the support for the P100 is not official, I would like some feedback regarding this matter.
If the issue cannot be resolved otherwise, what GPU solutions does the T630 enable? Does anyone have any experience with using e.g. GeForce GTX TITAN X, or other GPUs?
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hello, I'm afraid I don't think I'm seeing GeForce GTX TITAN X in the compatibility table.

As far as I know GeForce GTX TITAN X is for PC, not servers.
Respectfully,

Dear Young E!
Thank you for your reply!
How about the issue with the P100?

Hello could you please send your service tag through DM? https://www.dell.com/community/en/direct-messaging
Are you also asking me if GeForce GTX TITAN X would work with PowerScale P100?

I was only curious for the TITANX, if the NVIDIA P100 (NIVIDIA TESLA P100 PCIe 16gb) cannot be otherwise utilized. The main issue is:
nvidia-smi
, etc., but I am experiencing an issue with system cooling: once the P100 is installed, the PSU fans immediately ramp up to maximum speed and stay there constantly, even though system temperatures remain well within normal operating ranges.DELL-Marco B

Hello,
I didnt' find any confirmation P100 support for this server. If this card is not supported then idrac rise fans speed, this is a normal behaviour, and it won't change if you modify PSUs power.
Thanks
