Dell R640 Fans 100% after cpu upgrade
I upgraded the CPU in my Dell R640 server from a Xeon Silver to Xeon Platinum 8180M 2.5ghz cpu. Then the fans ran 100% all the time. I found this thread https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/poweredge-hardware-general/poweredge-r640-fans-at-max-rpm-after-cpu-upgrade-temps-low/654c04207fb3c34126a0b63d and so I ordered the high performance fans and they run quieter on first startup, but once the server is booted up, they still run at 100%. I reset the idrac and restarted server with no change. Changing the profile or offset or Minimum fan speed in PWM % of Max doesn't make a difference. Everything is up to date. BIOS 2.21.2 adn IDRAC 7.00.00.172
What can I do to resolve this?

Hi,
From the screenshot, it is showing Fan 1, 2 and 3 are not functioning. Can you try reinstalling the fans? You mentioned you have purchased the performance fans, can you provide me the DPN# of the fans. Can you also confirm all 8 fans are having the same DPN#?
How did you reset the iDRAC?
You mentioned you upgraded a CPU, so the server is on 1 CPU configuration, right? Do the 2nd CPU and Memory slots have fillers in them? What heatsink are you using on Xeon 8180M, is there a DPN#?
What are you hard drive configuration? Ref: https://dell.to/3WUHAVj

The server came with 1 cpu and 5 fans in slots 4-8, so I replaced with 5 high performance fans, DPN 0KG52T, and they are all the same.
I reset the idrac by logging into idrac and Maintenance> Diagnostics> Reset idrac to default settings.
Yes, it should be on 1 cpu configuration, since that's all it had. CPU 2 slt has the blank cover plate. And I have memory slot fillers in. I removed the Xeon Platinum cpu with the heatsink from a Dell R740xd. I have 2 Dell SAS ssd 800gb 12gb drives in slots 0 and 1 and 2 dell SAS ssd 1.92tb 12gb drives in slots 2 and 3.

Ozaktech,
I would start with verifying your current configuration with the table on page 12-14 here, and verify the fan requirement based on that.
Another thing I am seeing on that table is that standard fans are the only ones showing as 5 fans, the High Performance ones look to be at a count of 8 fans.
Let me know what you see.
