Dell R630 Cooling Fans keep ramping up and down

I am at a loss as to why my fans in my server keep spinning up and down.  She is only used for PFSense bare metal so no real load to speak of. Does anyone have any ideas,  Thought it could be related to non-supported PCIe cards but both appear to be dell or dell approved cards.

Hello what card did you add? Did you also check when you plug out the card if the system runs just fine?

@DELL-Young E Technically both cards have been removed and only the daughter card is installed. I am wondering if it isn't the PSUs complaining due to the CPUs that are in it.

Dell R630:

2x E5-2680 v3

2x 8Gb 2133MHz

Intel(R) 2P X520/2P I350 rNDC

2x 0G6W6KA00 750w PSUs

Ducati0927,

Those cards are supported on the R630, so I don't believe they are the cause. What I would suggest you start with is to update the server to current on BIOS, iDrac, Raid controller, power supply, etc and then see if it is still doing it. If so then you could try taking the server to its minimum to post configuration and see if the issue continues, if it ceases under minimum to post I would then individually add each removed part back until the issue reappears, pointing to whats causing it. Minimum to post is removing everything internally and externally from the server but the following;

  • One processor (CPU) in socket processor 1
  • One memory module (DIMM) in socket A1
  • One power supply unit
  • Left control panel with cable (for power button functionality)
  • System board

Let me know if this helps, and the results you see.
