outdated pc's

Hi, question. why does a working desktop pc work well and surf the internet fast and then no more after we can no longer get updated Java & browser's? seems the internet has not changed much but only requires a newer version of java & a newer browser which cannot be loaded into a pc that no longer can get updates?? sounds like a give me more money for a newer pc to me. why do they discontinue updates for older pc's? starting to sound like a cash flow problem

Operating system support is the overriding concern.  Even with an updated browser, if the OS is fundamentally no longer secure or supported (which means anything older than Windows 10), it makes little difference.

There are other OS options that will support newer browsers -- mostly Linux.

The newer OS in the timeline has code execution that prevents attacks from the outside much better than the past OS. The hardware has to conform with this newer configuration to maximize the changes. This is not a cash grab, but an improvement to prevent someone from taking control of your computer and executing certain code that may brick your computer.

Chrome, Firefox, and Edge should still work on Windows 7. Not sure where the Java update is needed for any of that. I believe they have all abandoned Adobe Flash and use HTML5 now. If you're using an older OS than 7, that's your responsibility.
