Optiplex 9020 MT unable to complete BIOS update
Hi All,
I bought an used Optiplex 9020MT with BIOS version A03.
I run the update file from Windows 7 Pro but it is not updated.
Then I try to run the update file from F12 menu (from boot), also running normal but BIOS not updated.
Finally I boot with DOS, run the BIOS update file and done. But BIOS is remain the same, not updated.
Try to reset the BIOS from RTCRST pin, took off the CR2032 battery and unplug the power cable, no success.
Unplug the power cable then press CTRL-ESC while plugging the power cable again, there is not fail BIOS update menu come up.
So what exactly the problem with this 9020 MT ?
I have some Optiplex and doing BIOS update is as smooth as silk, but not with this one !
Hope there is anyway to get this unit BIOS updated because the LAN port has problem that I need to re-install the LAN driver in order to get it work. If not then the LAN status is unable to connect to network.
Regards,
Hendra

you can try update bios after setting motherboard jumper to service mode which disabled intel ME. we had user who had similar issue and was successful to run bios.exe after the jumper is set.
in my opinion a corrupted Intel ME is often if not always the root cause of such issue (bios.exe would apparent run but does not do anything).

@redxps630 WOW ! you just save my day... problem SOLVED ! and this is new for me that updating BIOS need to use this jumper in order to enter the service mode.
Many many thanks for saving hours of my tweaking and finding solution for this problem!
Two thumbs up for you !
Now I just need to test if the LAN still have problem.

Normally you can run Dell bios.exe to update bios. But when Intel ME is corrupted it disables write access to bios block. Bios.exe still runs without alerting user there is a problem, but since write access is disabled, the exe does nothing and simply gives a blank return like those command line command.

@redxps630 other thing I need to mention is that this 9020 start takes longer time to post a Dell logo on my display... a lot longer than any other Optiplex that I have experienced ( about 10 to 20 sec). Anything I should check on BIOS?

when you update bios it also updates Intel ME
disconnect all USB devices. hdd, ssd, gpu to check POST time.
