OptiPlex 7080 Micro - upgrading graphics card. Is it possible on my computer?
Hello,
I would like to upgrade the graphic card in my PC. I currently have a UHD Graphics 630 card and would like to upgrade it to to GPU graphic card with 1GB or more if possible possible? What would be compatible with OptiPlex 7080 Micro.

According to specifications guide, compatible discrete graphics for OptiPlex 7080 Micro is AMD Radeon RX 640.

According to the size of your pc u might be able to fit some low profile cards, that might have upto 4 gb of vram.

@Chino de Oro Thanks! This link is very handy. I tried searching for the owners manual but was unsuccessful. Plus the information on the page is easier to navigate. Unfortunately the AMD Radeon RX 640 card is no longer being sold. I am currently in search of something compatible. Perhaps an AMD or NVIDIA GDDR6 with 8gb. Hopefully I can find something that works.

Does anyone know of an AMD or NVIDIA GDDR6 with 6 or 8gb that will work with the Optiplex 7080 micro?

if I recall correctly you need a different micro motherboard that is Dell factory configured to have a discrete video card. here is a list of 7080 MFF DP/N which shows some specifically mention dGPU. those without mention of dGPU can not be refurbished to have dGPU unless you replace motherboard.

those mobo without mention of dGPU has no PCIe slot on motherboard. see reference picture in link above.
example
3KKVC has PCIe slot
RR02N has no PCIe slot

Hello,
I have an Optiplex 7080 micro, intel i9-10900, 64GB RAM, intel(R) UHD Graphic 630. I would like to upgrade the graphics card to get better performance using my architecture design software. I would like to know if it's possible. Also, what would be the recommended graphic card (workstation-grade GPU) that would be compatible with my PC.

@redxps630 Thanks so much for this information. This is very useful information. I am not sure which Motherboard I have. I tried looking at the "View Product specs" but it is very confusing. I am not sure if this is right, but it is the closest I came to finding something that references 7080 Micro:
The part number does not match any of the above listed motherboards. I'm not sure if there is a way to find out without opening the computer. I may have to call Dell service. At least I know it is possible to replace the current motherboard with a dGPU motherboard, so I am hopeful.

your motherboard should have a white sticker on it that says the DP/N. this detailed info is usually not available by looking up original product spec using service tag (similarly PSU DP/N is not retrievable either). Dell really should have done a better job providing these specific oem part number info. Currently the only way is to have physical access to the PC and open it up to look at motherboard directly. you may need a magnifying glass to see the small print on the sticker. It starts with CN-. example

@redxps630 Thanks so much! I was able to open my PC and from what I can tell the motherboard does not seem to have a PCIe slot.
I guess my next option would be to buy Dell Optiplex 7080 MFF Riser Board 3YF0X which you mentioned in a previous chat or a DELL discrete system motherboard with the PCIe slot. Any thoughts?

no the riser board is just a 90 degree angle adapter to fit a RX video card in the micro case that already has a PCIe slot. your pc motherboard does not have the slot. you can see next to your cpu heatsink there is a footprint of PCIe slot which is not soldered. not sure whether user can solder a slot to those pins but I never heard anyone successfully done that. the only way to use RX video card is to replace the entire motherboard (resue the cpu and ram/ssd). not sure if that is worth the expense.

here is a 7090 MFF mobo on eBay that has the dGPU PCIe slot.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/394757636538
note when the board says 35W it may use a lower voltage cpu fan (DC 5V instead of DC 12V) for lower power cpu. this means if your pc has a 65w cooler (as shown by your pc spec) the stocker cooler would not work for the 35w motherboard. you would need to replace the cooler too. Chances are you have a 65 w cpu, then it is no go to use the 35w 7090 MFF board since it will be under cooled.

pretty sure 7090 MFF board can directly drop in 7080 MFF case.
