OptiPlex 7070 Micro, P2418HT touch screen causing secondary P2422H to no longer respond

Hello,

Tech details to start:

PC monitors are connected to is a Dell OptiPlex 7070 Micro tower running Win 11 Ent - all updates installed/ran.

Primary monitor is the P2418HT touch screen.

There is a secondary monitor Dell P2422H connected to the PC as well - non touch screen.

Monitor Drivers are up to date.

Display management software is installed and up to date.

Calibration completed.

Any time someone interacts with the touch screen, the non-touch screen stops taking mouse input.

Turning the NON touch screen off and then back on allows mouse input to be recognized again.

No firmware, software, or driver updates have resolved the issue.

Swapping to another known working Optiplex 7070 does not resolve.

Using a Dell Latitude 5520 laptop in conjunction with the touch screen and the laptop built-in screen as the secondary monitor DOES resolve the issue, but desktops are what are really needed in the space these machines operate in.

This issue was NOT present on these devices when they were running Windows 10 with these same models of monitors attached to them.

Any ideas on a solution to this?

Thank You.

So, is it a new driver for the monitor that needs to be released then?

I doubt that Dell would ever release a Windows 11 (inf/icm/cat) driver for the 7 year old P2418HT. The only reason we see Windows 11 on the P2418HT Drivers & Downloads page is because the associated application DDPM (Dell Display and Peripheral Manager) had support for Windows 11.

Additional detail: Monitors are using Display Cables and USB Cables that came with monitors to connect to the PC.

Are you saying that the two monitors (P2418HT + Touch, P2422H) function correctly when switching them over to the Latitude 5520? If yes, then we need to which specific Optiplex model. Insert the private Optiplex Service Tag here to find out.

@DELL-ChrisM2 Thanks for your quick response. So, if we attach the P2418HT + Touch to the 5520 and use the built in display on the 5520 laptop as the secondary monitor instead of the P2422H which we typically use in conjunction with the 7070, then the laptop screen does NOT lose mouse input when the touch screen is used.

I'll see about getting you that service tag.

Just to reiterate, the issue we are looking to resolve is the P2422H monitor not responding to mouse input after the P2418HT + Touch (set as primary display) is utilized to interact with the PC.

Thank You!

Understood, so both the Laptop and Desktop have the same issue. Is this the setup?

Optiplex DisplayPort #1 --> DP to DP cable --> P2418HT DP in port
Optiplex USB-A port --> USB-A to USB-B upstream cable --> P2418HT USB-B port

Optiplex DisplayPort #2 --> DP to DP cable --> P2422H DP in port
Optiplex USB-A port --> USB-A to USB-B upstream cable --> P2422H USB-B port

@DELL-ChrisM2 The laptop is NOT seeing the issue, both machines are running the same version of Win 11 Ent.

The below DOES correctly reflect how the monitors are attached to the 7070 Desktop

Optiplex DisplayPort #1 --> DP to DP cable --> P2418HT DP in port
Optiplex USB-A port --> USB-A to USB-B upstream cable --> P2418HT USB-B port

Optiplex DisplayPort #2 --> DP to DP cable --> P2422H DP in port
Optiplex USB-A port --> USB-A to USB-B upstream cable --> P2422H USB-B port

Thank You!

"The laptop is NOT seeing the issue"
Agreed! But maybe only because in that case the P2422H is not connected to the Latitude 5520 as a second extended monitor. If "both" exernal monitors were connected to the Latitude 5520 AND you were NOT using the Latitude 5520 built in display, I wonder if the same issue would happen? But to test that scenario you would need either a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable or Thunderbolt to DP cable.

Still researching the OptiPlex 7070 Micro two external monitor issue.

I did find this notation in the P2418HT User's Guide referencing "Touch" =

Dell provided a P2418HT Touch monitor driver for Windows 7/8/8.1/10 but not one for Windows 11. Windows 11 is using the provided by Microsoft touch driver for Windows 11. So now wondering if that could be the root cause.

Issue only started occurring once we flipped the boxes over to Win 11. Dell DID release a SLEW of new Graphics/Display drivers for the 5520, 5530, 5540 latitude, and Pro 16 laptops on the 15th of this month - but nothing for the desktop systems we use 7050/7060/7070. :(

Is there any way to find out if Dell has plans to release updated win 11 drivers for the 7070 desktop model, or is it so old and EOL that they have moved on?

Thanks, Brent

The OptiPlex 7070 Micro Drivers & Downloads page currently shows 19 Windows 11 drivers released in 2025.

@DELL-ChrisM2 Thanks Chris, and we have those latest drivers installed. We only flipped the boxes a couple months back. So, is it a new driver for the monitor that needs to be released then?

@DELL-ChrisM2 Woah, we just got these models of monitors a couple years ago, did not realize they were seven years old from a production standpoint, thought they were produced within the last year or so before the org purchased them. Yikes. Thanks for your help, appears we will be pursuing work arounds or touch screen replacements. - Brent

To get more Optiplex user eyes on this thread and perhaps their opinions, moving it to the Optiplex Desktops board.

@Brent Congdon

Got it  that’s good to confirm.  Using the original DisplayPort and USB cables that came with the monitors helps rule out cable issues. If you’re still having problems, it might be worth checking the display input settings, GPU drivers, or trying a different port on the PC to isolate the cause.
