Optiplex 390 SFF; Win10; 5 min. to boot
My dad has an Optiplex 390 SFF with Win10 on an HDD. It now takes 5 min. to boot, then runs fine afterwards. He already replaced the battery and ran Microsoft cleanup, which helped for a while. Since it works fine after booting, dad doesn't think the HDD is on its way out.
I suggested he run sfc /scannow and try F12 Diagnostics.
There isn't much point putting Win10 on an SSD at this point since Win10 expires Oct. 14.
Any other suggestions and ideas are welcome.

quite likely due to old hardware including old gen cpu, small ram size and old hdd to load Win boot file and sometime run update that was downloaded during down time (Win 10/11 does this sneaky background DL all the time).
increase ram to 8 GB if not already, if it is i3 do not expect much. i5/i7 better. Do a clean Win 10 Pro install after wipe disk, then gpedit to change auto update policy to disabled, and also do not display update then restart/shutdown in menu
PS
after you give 7010 to one parent now you are asked by another to help with 390.

I don't know how much RAM and what CPU it has. It used to work well.
Mom has the 7010. Dad has 390. Also a 760 with Win7 for his music PC and a couple of Google laptops.
Not sure what you mean by your question. Why wouldn't I help with the 390?

just kidding if you have newer better pc than ur parents consider upgrading their pc hardware too, unless there is strong reason to keep using old EOL pc.

I recently bought a Precision 3420. Like it so much I bought one for dad. It's still on the way. Hopefully it takes the place of his 390.
The catch is after I ordered one for dad, then I find out it won't update to Win11's 24H2 due to unsupported hardware. Many eBay sellers are selling Win11 PC's on unsupported hardware.
