Optiplex 3060 Recommended NVMe

Hi, guys.

I read various posts here about problems using an NVMe with the Optiplex 3060. Nevertheless, I went ahead and ordered this from Amazon Japan:

Crucial P310 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCle4.0 M.2 SSD up to 7,100MB/s CT500P310SSD8-JP

One month after order, they tell me it is temporarily out of stock, and they didn't know this that and the other... Phew!

Trawling through the reviews on Amazon' website, there were several negative reviews like package received opened, soon broke and other technical/quality issues.

The old Micron and Crucial products were good, but it seems no longer...

Can somebody kindly offer a viable solution, perhaps alternative solution.

PS. I could easily replace the old Optiplex 3060, but I think it is a very good product, and I am reluctant to change it.

Cheers!

I just used a 3060 MFF and it came from Dell with

W90VR
Solid State Drive,256,S3,80S3,HYNIX,SC311
it currently uses a Toshiba 256 GB nvme ssd which is fine too.

Yes, I never had problems with Samsung and WD products for decades. Many thanks for your time and expertise.

I have ordered the SAMSUNG SSD 980 M.2/NVMe 500GB M.2 PCIe Gen 3.0 x4、NVMe1.4 MZ-V8V500B/IT 2280.

It seems a little slower than the WD product but had less customer complaints.

Many thanks for the feedback.

Hynix (NKA SK) are another reputable brand. Some of my earlier Dell PCs had Hynix memory preinstalled, and it always performed per spec.

Update.

Not impressed by the Samsung SSD 980 NvMe M.2 MZ-V8V500B/IT.  It regularly creates VSS errors in Windows 10 Pro 22H2. I downloaded the Samsung Magician spyware and it reported that the SSD 980 firmware version is latest.

BTW. The Samsung Magician spyware installs over 6000 files and registry entries!  (I since removed it.)

I am thinking that I should have bought the WD Black SN770.

@innocent12  It's been a while.  Sorry to see your still having trouble with it.  I see nothing in Dell doctrine that points to any compatibility issues.

Hi, bradthetechnut.

I hope you are keeping well and thanks for following up my posts.

Apart from the Win10 VSS errors, I don't have any other problems with the Samsung SSD 980. Speed is good and I never experienced hang-ups or BSODs. According to the Internet, the Samsung SSD 980 Pro and the WD Black SN770 also experience VSS errors in Win10 and Win11. Moreover, many people using the WD Black SN770 are also reporting BSODs in Win11.

It seems to be a Windows problem (not a hardware problem) and I'll just have to live with it.

All the best.

I wasn't familiar with VSS errors before this thread.  I take it you Googled it already?  Seems to be helpful tips there if you haven't.
