No POST no beep Intel 4th gen cpu

Upgrading cpu from i3-4130 to i5-4460 which was given to me by some one selling it long time ago. PC was last time working with the i3 also long time ago. I made the mistake of not testing pc before cpu swap. After switching to i5, no post, removing all memory, no beep either. No funny diagnostic led, no high cpu fan noise. By all it looks pc appears to be “working” except no video. I did not even bother w a video card to test video port or monitor. I know pc is not working now. Replaced cmos battery and clear CMOs settings by jumper x2. No change.

Turns out I put the i3 back, pc is posting. This proves to me the i5 cpu is bad (seller may not know it was a dud, or did seller sell a lemon cpu).  I had never expected a bad i5 ordinary cpu.

with i3, when I remove all memory, it beeps too.

lesson: when cpu is bad, mobo has no brain to think and provide clue to what is wrong. Therefore no LED, no high fan noise, no beep. CPU fan normal spinning just means board has power. It has a heart but no brain, basically a vegetable.
