Jack Mic - not plugged in Optiplex 5070

HI,

there are dozens of threads related to "Jack Mic - unplugged" issue in many Optiplexes, including 5070. I see that problems were on W10 and so I have it on W11 (fully updated from MS and DELL).

I see that many people confirm that there is a combo jack on front and one on the back of the machine...

In my case I have 2 - one OUT and one IN (mic). Nothing in the back... I tried everything possible and impossible.

Even tried DELL driver packs... no luck. And regardless that 5070 is pretty old there is driver pack for W11 on Dell site.

May be somebody in year 2025 :) have a resolution for the Optiplex Mic Jack  on front panel with OUT Jack (headphone symbol near it).

Clearly, it is the matter of correct driver.

Will really appreciate.

Thank you.

First, uninstalling the Realtek audio driver from Device Manager, remember to check the box to remove associates software.

Second, download and reinstalling this Realtek audio driver  https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=pttv6&oscode=w2021&productcode=optiplex-5070-micro

,Waves MaxxAudio Pro will (should) automatically be installed right after the audio driver installation completed.

For testing, connect a headset or microphone to line-in port #3 (see picture below).  There should be a popup screen asking to confirm which audio device just plugged in, select headset or microphone and confirm the type, size.  Launch an appropriate application for testing and adjusting volume level.

first, thank you very much for trying to help.

I just realized (seen a clear image of my 5070... 3 is actually the port that should be used for mic... I didn't see clearly on my comp the icons... and using 3 as OUT. And thought that 4 is Mic... now I see that 4 is actually OUT. And I connected mic there... my bad...

as to the link you provided it's unaccessible:

500 - Internal server error.

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

At least I am on a new track and there is a chance to make it work. Check plz the link

I reposted the link for Realtek audio driver page instead (the download link worked well for me and I couldn't find any issue at my end).  You can try the same process if connecting to port #3 and still have issue with the mic.

I uninstalled driver (don't see the option for removing software).

Reboot... sure it simply reinstalled old driver 6.0.9235.1 2021-09-07

But I tried your link and it works. Will download and try again.

Thx.

Also, Dell Command is installed and everything  is completely up to date.

Let's see where I will come. Really want to have my mic work :)

On some systems, I found that disconnect and reconnect the headset or mic would trigger the popup to select audio device.  Also, verify in Startup Apps to make sure all audio services are enable.

for now the same negative result...

I uninstalled driver. Prior to restart run the installation from your link. Prior to start I saw that it's the same driver ver. But marked as v.1 and dated one month later than installed

My old was/is 6.0.9235.1 2021-09-07  as you can see there is .1 after 5. But the date of yours shown one month later.

Anyway. After installing new one it asked to restart. The same ... happened. I did check startup and enabled Realtek. No way.

Here is a pic of the driver in W11 Dell driver pack for my optiplex. It seems the same date as in your installation package dated october. In Dev Man mine shows September 2021. It could be the same thingy but differently identified in Dev Man.

When you perform driver installation, does it have a check box to perform clean install (it will remove all previous drivers)?

Have you try to disconnect and reconnect the mic to trigger popup?

And, have you try Settings=> System=> Sound to check Input device?

update... the heck works... detected..

The volume of the recording is very LOW. Don't know what 2% means :)... when Mic volume is at 100%.

See pic DETECTED at the same link (above).

Thank you.

At least it detected... will check for a problem tomorrow.

why I could not understand what 2% means... because on W10 when mic volume was on 100%, the mike that is on the same distance from my mouth worked loud. So 2% is actual recording volume (from 100%).

I tried to talk directly "attached" to the mike and the test sounds good. It's not super quality mike but the dilemma is that it did work fine on W10. So this whole story with Maxx on DELL, driver and W11 make all this headache...

I deployed hundreds of HPs and Lenovo... and never had such an "advanced" audio setup.

Finally, not big deal. I have to use my studio mike with audio interface for regular whatsapp chats. Simply didn't want to switch on Audio interface of my studio.

Again thank you very much @Chino de Oro

latest news :)

I "played"more with mic settings and found under recording/mic/levels/boost...

in my case I have boos slider up to 30db...

called by whatsapp. Changed the db level during conversation.

Even 10db is enough for normal  functionning. 20,30 didn't changed anything for listener ear.

So I left it on 20db. In W11 sound test this corresponds to 20% of volume.

Glad that it's working fine.
