How to boot Dell OptiPlex 3080Mt from USB

How can I boot my Dell Optipklex 3080Mt from USB, the boot sequences in the BIOS shows three options of Windows boot manager and onboard NIC (IPV4) and onboard NIC (IPV5), no boot option listed for USB or DVD drive.

Windows 11 pro installed.

If the dvd shows up in F12 menu under UEFI boot device, it has a bootable UEFI link. just use up and down arrow to select it then press enter.

yes you can use Win 10/11 installation media tool to burn a UEFI bootable OS installer dvd

UEFI bios does not list USB device as boot option, this is different from legacy bios.

If you have a bootable USB already plugged in 3080 MT that has UEFI boot partition on it, such as Windows Installation media, press F12 at power up will show the UEFI: USB device on screen.  It may also show up in BIOS>Boot priority list too.

If you do not have the UEFI bootable flash drive plugged in, nothing will show on F12 or F2 (bios).

If you have a USB drive plugged in which does not contain UEFI boot partition, it would not show either.

If I plug UEFI bootable USB drive will it boot or need tp press either F2 or F12 to boot from?

What is the best to do to enable booting from USB like installing windows?

If you plug in but do not press F12, it will boot from default existing Windows boot manager which is on top of boot priority in UEFI bios, unless the hdd/ssd is completely blank.

When I install Windows I always press F12 so I can select the boot device I want it to boot from, usually a USB containing Windows installation media, or sometimes a Windows 10 or 11 DVD burnt with Microsoft install media.

I usually do a clean install which deletes all old partitions on hdd or ssd

what happens with this clean install is when it is done the first round, it automatically sets up a new Windows boot manager that contains a UEFI boot link pointing towards the newly written UEFI partition on the hdd/ssd, thereafter during the first restart it automatically boots from that boot drive and sets up device drivers etc.  It would not boot from USB or DVD any more (unless you press F12 again).

it is automatically GPT partition when you choose UEFI bios mode.  MBR was for legacy bios.

Is the Dell 3080Mt has only EUFI Bios?

Why I need to press F12 when using USB drive with EUFI format? I was expecting it to be detected automatically?

At present the PC is booting from HDD 2TB with windows 11 Pro but it is not shown in the BIOS, why?

3080 does not have legacy bios

your pc is not set up to automatically boot from UEFI USB because it is already set up to boot from Windows boot manager, which contains a UEFI boot link to the hdd.  this is how Microsoft set up Windows 10 when OS was installed in HDD the first time.

after that, you have to press F12 to choose option to boot from UEFI USB

if the dvd has a UEFI link such as those burnt by MS windows installation media, the pc will show the bootable UEFI DVD option on F12 screen.  the dvd must be already loaded in the drive before you press F12 after power on

blank ssd is just like blank hdd would not show at all on F12.  when you do custom install it will show as unallocated drive for which OS can be installed on

Can I use same UEFI bootable USM media to load Linux or other utility?

On creating bootable USB with Rufus and selecting iso file I got message that image contain UEFI bootloader that has been revoked and will produce a security violation screen when secure boot is enabled on a fully up to date UEFI system, what shall I do?

What is the best route to install windows 11 24H2 on newly installed M.2 SSD? or would be same if installed from USB, DVD, or even iso file from the HDD ?

Thank you

do not use Rufus or any third party tool.  Use MS official website to prepare installation media.  USB better than DVD as it is less prone to other potential issues.

What about using Dell Support Assistant OS Recovery? it is said to create bootable USB for this computer and rest and update OS.

I used media creation tool to prepare USB for windows 11 after completion I found it partitioned as MBR which could not boot from Dell 3080MT, Do have to I convert the partition to GPT.

How to prepare bootable USB to boot to LInux in Dell 3080Mt already running windows 11?

I will stay away from Dell SA.  It causes more confusion and waste of time.

use MS official installation media is fail safe

if you use that and do a clean install by choosing custom install mode (advanced), deleting all old partitions on hdd/ssd, which leaves the drive as single unallocated. then press enter, it automatically sets up new GPT partition and formats in NTFS.  you would not even see it do this.  all done nicely in the background.  easy piece for anyone

I do not know anything of linux.
