Parts optimized for your system are no longer manufactured by Dell but you may be able locate them on sites like Parts-People or eBay.

Below is the official manual for your system.

https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/optiplex-9020-desktop_owners-manual_en-us.pdf

You can see how to remove the WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) card on Page 12 and Install a card on Page 13.

Additionally, you should also consider getting a Wifi extender, access point or use an ethernet connection.

Hi

  • Best overall: Intel AX210-based PCIe card with low-profile bracket and external antennas. These are the most future-proof option in this class and are widely recommended in current buyer lists.

  • Best Dell-friendly fit: A half-height PCIe x1 card that includes the bracket and antenna leads. Dell recommends an ASUS PCE-AX58BT for the 9020 SFF because it fits the chassis and supports Bluetooth via a USB connection.

  • If you only need Wi‑Fi: A simple PCIe Wi‑Fi card avoids the Bluetooth header issue entirely and is the least troublesome retrofit path for the 9020 SFF.

The 9020 SFF has a PCIe x1 slot available, so a half-height PCIe adapter is the right physical format. Bluetooth can be the awkward part: the SFF model typically does not have a spare internal USB header for the Bluetooth lead used by many combo cards, so you may need a USB header splitter or choose a card/setup that does not rely on that internal header.

If you want the cleanest “buy once, forget it” option, go with an Intel AX210-based low-profile PCIe card with a full antenna kit; if you want a specific proven model, the ASUS PCE-AX58BT is a solid match for the 9020 SFF.

If Bluetooth is not important, a Wi‑Fi-only PCIe adapter is the least fiddly option for this machine.

Easiest is to use a modern wireless USB dongle from TPlink that has 1-2 antenna about 12-15 usd, not those tiny adapter usb that look like a small plug.

no advantage of using built in PCIe WiFi card compared to a good simple wireless dongle.

i use a dongle to test 9020 SFF all the time never a drop out issue, assuming clean Windows install which automatically installs WiFi driver

Just want to add suggestion.  If you have any old routers seating around, check for compatibility and turn on bridge mode to use it as wifi adapter.

"not those tiny adapter usb that look like a small plug."

Worked fine for me for years.  Depends on how close your PC is to the router.
