Dell Optiplex 790 SFF to Dell Tower Case
Hello, I bought a Refurbished Dell Optiplex 790 PC off of Amazon. The Picture the Company showed was a Tower Case. But when it arrived it was a SFF. Ok I can live with that I guess. But after using it for awhile it started notifying me that a HDD Fan wasn't working. So I adjusted the FAN speed in the Bios. What happened a month later is the SSD burned up. I didn't know it had a SSD. This was caused by the HDD fan not working correctly. I replaced the SSD. I also looked for a Fan for the SSD/HDD. Seems they don't make them anymore. I never liked SFF cases as Dell's have a issue with Systems being able to breathe in the first place. But I have Older Dell Towers 3 of them. Dell Optiplex 780 Tower the Power Supply died. (that system ran for 4 years straight). And to other Tower Cases from even older systems. But I want to take the guts out of the 790 SFF and put them in one of the spare Dell Cases I have. Everything including the Power supply will be going into the Dell Tower.. The 790 SFF is a i5 processor and it faster than the other Dell Systems. Which are Dual Core and AMD Processors. Not needing to put a GPU for Gaming. Just want my System to be able to breathe. Not wanting to drop 50 to 75 dollars on a SSD every time the lame fan stops working in a SFF case. Any Idea's? Cause YouTube is useless. And I don't want to have to go out and buy components to make it all work. Or even a New Case. Thank You...
NOTE: The Dell 790 SFF was bought in 2019, the Old Optiplex 780 was bought in 2014. The other Dell Tower Computers were given to me. They work but can't buy RAM and they don't have the new connectors for HDD/DVD connections.

unfortunately would not work. 790 is ATX and 780 is BTX. you need to look for a 790/7010 MT empty case to move 790 sff. in addition front panels are different between MT and SFF

I do not think 790 SFF has a HDD fan. it has a cpu fan and front intake fan

My Optiplex 790 is not like yours... As you can see in the bottom picture there is a HDD Fan

your 790 is DT (desktop), not SFF. still can not move in 780 case.

Much more feasible to put 790 DT components into a 790 MT case. Just use the PSU that comes with the MT case. I almost mentioned the 7010 MT case, but the rear panel is different.
That I know of, about the only difference between the DT and MT MB's is the MT MB has one more SATA data connection. MT doesn't have that big fan shroud.

790 DT has a system fan aka HDD fan
DT is as wide as MT but thinner (low profile)

790 MT case

OP can also move 790 DT in a standard mATX case and buy a 790 front panel adapter.
