dell demsion 7400 psu (i know its not a optiplex couldnt select demesion)

note: i do know that this is a 20 + year old computer.

also if there is support page for leagcy products please tell me

i recently got an old dell dimension 4700 from someone.

When I plug it in the power supply light blinks and the power supply makes a clicking sound. none of the diagnostic lights come on or the power button.

when i unplug the power cord it continues to blink and click for a bit

I suspect that this is a psu issue but my dad says it can be something being shorted out on the board. What's the best way to see if it is the psu causing the problem or is it a leaky Capacitor shorting out the board?

it uses old ATX psu.  you can borrow a working ATX psu from another desktop to test the 7400 motherboard.

beware that even if you figure out whether it is old psu or board issue, it is probably not worth replacing either component given age of this model.

if you want to do XP retro project, there are other better Dell models you can consider.
