BIOS password remove

Starting in 2019, Dell began transitioning desktop and All-in-One (AIO) computers to the BIOS password reset process used in Dell laptops, which requires the user to contact Dell Technical Support to obtain a password release code. The password release code is based on the unique password prompt that is generated using information from your Dell computer.  Dell technical support requires ownership information about the Dell computer to prevent unauthorized users from obtaining the password release code.

Being manufactured in 2020 or later, your OptiPlex 5080 may have been an affected product by this process change and it may not have a password reset jumper on system board for you to clear it yourself.

Although the OptiPlex 5080 was released during the transition, physically check on your system board for the present of password jumper.  Because when I check the service manual of your Dell computer, I found the OptiPlex 5080 system board has a reset jumper #16 (see the system board layout from service manual link).

If your system board does have the jumper, follow the process below to clear your forgotten password:

1.  Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable from the computer.
2.  Locate the password reset jumper (PSWD) on the system board.
3.  Remove the jumper plug from the password jumper-pins.
4.  Power on without the jumper plug to clear the password.
5.  Wait until the desktop is loaded and then shut down the computer and replace the jumper plug in its original location.

Well you can do the following to fix the issue.

1. Try to Use Dell Master Password Recovery (If Available)
2. Reset CMOS Password via Jumper on Motherboard
3. Remove CMOS Battery Temporarily
4. Contact Dell Support
