Hello

It is not easy to understand what the issue is based on the information you provided. It sounds like you replaced PD 2 and it did not rebuild as expected.

When you replace a drive in a RAID array our controllers will usually start a rebuild automatically. If the controller does not automatically initiate a rebuild then you will need to set the new drive as a hot spare to get it to pull into the array and initiate a rebuild.

Hi Daniel Thanks for replying,

I actually replace physical disk #3 however I cannot find where either Open Manage Server or the LSI configuration  recognizes the new drive at  all and I also cannot find anywhere the option to   assign the new disk as hot spare if it was recognized

Hi Have you given up on me? I tried per your reply to add  the replacement drive in slot 3 as a hot spare but I can not find an option to do so? Where would I find the option or setting to add a replacement drive as a hot spare? Thanks

If the drive is not seen by the controller then you cannot add it as a hot spare. I would suggesting booting to the controller BIOS to see if the drive is detected. If it is not seen in the controller BIOS then either the drive or cable/slot is faulty. Make sure the drive is properly attached by reseating it.

Thanks

Hi Daniel I have reseated the drive repeatedly and yes I have booted into the controller bios and it does not see the drive, can I switch slots with the unseen drive to determine if the cable is at fault?

Yes, if it is still not seen then either the drive is faulty or incompatible. If it is not a validated drive then it could be a firmware communication issue with the replacement drive. If it works in the other cable slot then it is likely a cable issue.
