PowerEdge R815 boot partition FAT32 to NTFS procedure

What is the correct way of changing the DELL pre-loaded OS 2GB partition from FAT32 to NTFS without loosing the ability to boot the OS?

Hello

I can't say for sure with the limited information you have provided. I'm assuming this is Windows Server 2008 or some variant. What you are describing sounds like the Windows Recovery Environment. We installed WinRE on factory installs of Windows 2008.

I would suggest searching Microsoft's knowledge base on information for manipulating the recovery environment.

Thanks

You are correct it is Windows Server 2008R2 but a clean install of 2008R2 does not create a fat32 partition, I have only seen these FAT32 partitions on my PowerEdges as they come from the factory before I format them.

Is there a correct way to safely convert this partition, I am contacting you because it came from the factory with it and is not present on fresh Windows Server installs.

I addressed this in my previous post. The partition is not a Dell proprietary partition. The installation of WinRE is an option during installation of Windows. We chose to perform the optional installation of WinRE on 2008 factory images.

You can research WinRE on Microsoft's website.
