PowerEdge r710 Foreign State Issue

I have a Power Edge r710 that's showing a 'foreign' state on all 6 of its drives. When I try to import the foreign configuration, it fails with an error code of 0x54 (if I remember right). I've seen on dell's knowledgebase that it's possible that discarding the preserved cache might resolve the issue somehow but risks data loss. Can anyone help me understand the issue here and if/how discarding the preserved cache will help. Would like to know before taking a risk.

Hello

The preserved cache contains data that is yet to be written to the drives. An import will not be successful if the controller is unable to write preserved cache. If the controller is unable to write that data then it is unable to properly communicate with at least one of the drives. Deleting that cache may allow an import to succeed, but you will lose the data that was in cache.

For someone to properly assist you with how to proceed they would need to review your system configuration and the controller and hardware log files. If you need that assistance then I suggest you contact the triage team and discuss fee-based support options.

Thanks
