PERC H710 Mini Raid Problem
This is a weird one that I'm well aware there might not be a solution.
Dell PowerEdge R720
PERC H710 Mini Raid System
8 x 512GB Drives in a RAID10 configuration for 2TB total space
Every 2 drives are mirrored; the 4 pairs are then spanned
1 Drive was jarred loose out a month ago during a move
I shut down the server; reinserted the drive; then attempted to add to the RAID
It asked and I answered F to foreign drive configuration.
When the RAID screen came up, I noticed that both the drive and I was trying to insert and the mirrored pair were not present.
Perhaps the backplane is coming loose?
I shut down the server; remove the new drive; reinserted the “good” drive
It asked again about F for foreign drive configuration
It restarted
I went back into the raid screen and had to bring the new drive back online
It restarted
Windows puked immediately
I booted the Windows CD with raid drivers
When I poked around the files it became apparent that I have lost that span of my RAID system
This development machine, unfortunately, was not in the normal backup process but a lot of the files were recently archived. I was wondering if (a) there might be simple solution to reapply the drive to the RAID system as the data is still on it, or (b) some sort of drive level byte poking to “reset” it’s status, or (c) there’s nothing anyone can to help.
Thanks,
Cary
