October 2016 Microsoft updates trashed my PowerEdge R420 server

Hi All,

I have a PowerEdge R420 with a SAS raid array, 16GB of ram running Server 2008R2

This server was running along just fine until a week ago when I applied the 6 updates that

Microsoft released in October, KB3177467m 3185330  3192391  3188740  3188730  3118301

After that the server became very sluggish and doggy.  I noticed that TrustedInstaller.exe was consuming up to 25% of the CPU for days afterwards.   I tried re-running Updates and scanning for new updates and TrustedInstaller dropped to 0% until the next 'check for updates' interval a few hours later where it went back up to 25% or so.

I have backed off 3185330 and 3192391 with no change.  I am going to back off the other 3 tonight, 3177467 is not uninstallable.  The other 3 are not as significant, though.

I have a number of other servers in the enterprise that have been patched with those updates with no problems.   I even have another R420 that has been patched with no problem.

Is anyone aware of any potential problems with these servers, possibly their array card driver or bios firmware or any of that?

Has anyone experienced this kind of behavior with these patches?

TrustedInstaller is part of Windows Updates.  To turn it off and disable Windows Updates I would have to make a GPO change on the domain and I'm not that interested in doing that unless I have no other choice.   And I don't know if this is a cause anyway - it could simply be that TrustedInstaller is running slow because the server is slow for some other reason.

It is really badly affecting backup, we cannot back the server up now because backup is running so ridiculously slow  (150Mb/min verses the normal 1600Mb/min)

Thanks!
