Memory Upgrade Errors... MHZ drops and volts go up...
Memory Upgrade Errors... MHZ drops and volts go up...
Had 16 x 16GB 1333mhz 1.35v Dimms with no issues added 8 more of the same dimms to 24 x 16GB 1333mhz 1.35v Dimms, MHZ dropped to 1067MHZ and Volts went up to 1.5v. Why? How do i fix this?
Thanks

NYJay_17,
The issue you're seeing is due to the allowed frequencies to the number of dimms populated by channel. With your previous configuration, where you populated 2 dimms per channel, which would allow for frequencies of 1600, 1333, 1066, and 800 at 1.35V (LV). Once you added the new dimms, increasing the dimms to 3 per channel, it only supports 1066 and 800 at 1.35V. So since the dimms installed are 1333, it lowers the frequency and increases the voltage. This configuration is also limited to only dual ranked dimms as well. If quads were installed then both 1.5V and 1.35V would only support 1600 and 800 Mhz.You can find this information here.
Hope this helps.

Thanks
So the max ram is 256GB if I run 1333 LV dimms? How can I get more ram in the system and utilize all 24 DIMM slots? I want to get the best performance out of the unit.
