HDD Replacement for PowerEdge T620
Hello.
I currently have a Dell PowerEdge T620.
It has 4 6Gbps 600GB 15K SAS drives.
On the Dell site it lists the 12Gbps drive as compatible with the system but the 6Gbps as compatible with the T630 and other servers but not the T620. I didn't want to mix 6 and 12 Gbps in the RAID.
However, other than physical differences there should not be any reason a 6Gbps drive is not going to work.
I wanted to know if the 6 and 12 Gbps uses different hot swap trays?
Is there anything at all that is keeping the server from the compatibility list other than maybe it never came with those drives?
It's a lot to purchase the 6Gbps drives to only find that they only fit in the T630 and others on the compatibility list.
Thanks

Hello
I can't say for sure without the part number. If you would like to give the 5 digit or 7 digit part number I can check to see if it is validated for the T630.
The drive carriers have no logic, and I'm not aware of any physical differences between different transfer rate drives that would require a different carrier. They would likely work in the same carriers if they are the same form factor(3.5",2.5") and the same interface(SAS, SATA). SAS and SATA have different hole placement on the carriers.
Thanks
