Dell R710 Rackmount Server - Failed drives
Good afternoon
Hardware: Dell PowerEdge R710 Rack mount Server running a Raid 5 configuration
Software: VMware vCentre Server managing a single datacenter with a single ESX 5.0 host which is hosting 3 virtual machines including the vCentre server
Issue: 3 failed hard drives - new Dell replacement drives installed (exact same drives)
Current status: Server down - Raid State offline - Physical Disks Status - 5 up and 3 "missing" (as per Virtual Disk Management)
Virtual Disk Management indicates - of the 3 new drives: 1 appears as an unconfigured physical disk in the ready state and the other 2 appear as Global hot spares.
Requesting assistance in configuring the new drives / restoring the raid array

Hi,
With three failed drives the best option is to create a new array and restore a backup. If you do not have a backup a data recovery company is probably where you will need to go.

Ok, can you post a link on the process please - specific to the PERC H700 Integrated Bios,
Backups for data and VMs were done via Backup Exec nightly
Thanks in advance

You will not be able to import the foreign after creating the new array, all of the drives will be online, old and new drives and it will have no data on it and you can restore your backup.

Thank you kindly,
We have 3 new drives plus the 5 remaining drives that were still optimal at the time the server went down - server was running 8 total
once I delete the existing array and create a new raid 5 array I can then do a foreign import correct?
